While violence is regrettable, the impetus for these protests demands our attention. A government derives its just powers from the consent of the governed, and when that consent is eroded by perceived injustices, unrest is the inevitable consequence. Repression is no substitute for redress.

Order must prevail! While the impulse for justice is understandable, violence and disregard for law undermine the very foundations of our republic. Recall Shays' Rebellion; unchecked passions lead to anarchy, not progress. A nation without laws is no nation at all.
