Beast / Prince
A prince cursed to live as a beast until someone loves him for his inner self.
Core Belief
"True love and acceptance are based on inner qualities, not outward appearances."
Worldview
The Beast's worldview is initially colored by his curse and isolation, leading him to believe that he is unworthy of love. Through Beauty's kindness, he learns to value his own inner goodness and to see the potential for beauty in the world, even in the most unlikely places. As the Prince, he believes in the power of virtue and the importance of rewarding those who possess it.
Personality
As the Beast, he is initially gruff and intimidating, but possesses a kind and generous heart. He is lonely and yearns for connection, struggling with his monstrous appearance and perceived lack of intelligence. After his transformation back into a prince, he is grateful and humble, recognizing the value of virtue over superficial qualities.
In Their Own Words
"You are very ungrateful, (said the beast to him, in a terrible voice) I have saved your life by receiving you into my castle, and, in return, you steal my roses, which I value beyond any thing in the universe; but you shall die for it; I give you but a quarter of an hour to prepare yourself, to say your prayers."
"Beauty, (said the monster,) will you give me leave to see you sup?"
"You see him at your feet, (said the Prince): a wicked fairy had condemned me to remain under that shape till a beautiful virgin should consent to marry me: the fairy likewise enjoined me to conceal my understanding; there was only you in the world generous enough to be won by the goodness of my temper; and in offering you my crown, I can't discharge the obligations I have to you."
